I live in a priviledged country.
I co-run the largest fanbase online for Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. And through that, I’m able to experience multiple cultures of fans around the world.
This morning a member of the band, Eddie Fisher, was arrested in Denver and it’s striking to me how worried people are. Asking for prayers, calling it injustice, and so on. Here I was thinking how peculiar, stuff like this happens all the time—when I realized that most of the worried fans are from other countries. Middle Eastern countries, for example, have no idea how safe our systems are for inmates. If they’re in any danger, it’s certainly not from the police or US government! When we’re arrested, we don’t have to worry about torture, starvation, dehydration or other cruelties. In fact, we get TV time and recess!
So tonight, I’m thankful that I live in a country where I have human and legal rights.
